2022 VW Golf GTI: The New-All Upgrade, More Power and Strong Performance

Posted on

2022 VW Golf GTI the information we have obtained recently that VW has confirmed that both cars will still come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Unless there is a delay in responding to the global pandemic, both the 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R will be launched in the United States and Canada at the same time, the automaker said.

VW previewed the eighth-generation Golf GTI in a video conference on Wednesday but did not provide details on stronger models.

The 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI has dimensions and weights that are almost the same as the exit model, the first to use the VW MQB platform, although the new GTI is around 0.6 inches lower than the current Golf GTI.

VW confirmed rumors that the GTI and R, both assembled in Wolfsburg, Germany, will be the choice of customers here to enter the VW hatchback.

2022 VW Golf GTI News

We first saw the latest VW Golf GTI in March, but – as is often the case – US hot-hatch enthusiasts had to wait a little longer to get to our shores. VW said that the new Mk 8 model will arrive here at the end of 2021 as a 2022 model, while European buyers get a gap in the new models this year.

The slow arrival of Mk 8 leaves little room for the current Mk 7 GTI to, well, continue to exist. So VW says that the old GTI will last for the 2021 model year as accumulation.

This version has been available in the US since the 2015 model, and has aged gracefully: we named it and its sibling, the Jetta GLI sedan, to our 2020 Best 10Best list, as we did for many years before.

2022 VW Golf GTI Performance

Nice car makes you smile. The great ones make you laugh. A battle of giggles takes over us as the Volkswagen Golf GTI 2022 carves its way through Little Tujunga Canyon Road. Built-in the 1930s, the neighboring Little Tujunga and Sand Canyon Road cover 17 miles of circular asphalt above the San Gabriel Mountains on the western edge of the Angeles National Forest. Incline two narrows, winding two-lane increments of up to 2,750 feet, and connect Lake View Terrace at the southern end with In-N-Out Burger in Santa Clarita.

2022 VW Golf GTI

Less popular than the famed Angeles Crest and Angeles Forest Highways to the east, Little Tujunga has low-speed turns and turns favoring agility and steep dips that test driver confidence in vehicles and commitment to speed. Small and light cars work best here, which is probably why Mazda engineers used this road to make the final tuning on the current Miata.

If you’re coming from LA, take the Osborne exit from highway 210 and head north. When the house was replaced by a horse stable, Osborne became Little Tujunga. Enter Limerock Canyon and the scenery changes to mountain views and empty roads. The new GTI charges a loud, turbocharged 241-hp four-banger unaffected by the thinning air.

The 4.3 psi increase in propulsion pressure, now 26.1 psi, adds 13 horsepower for ’22, and the new generation’s 3154-pound curb weight is 28 pounds lighter than its predecessor. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, but our Euro-spec test car came with a blinking seven-speed automatic dual-clutch and you’d miss it. Equipped with launch control that increases revs beyond 4000 rpm before engaging the clutch, the GTI runs up to 60 in 5.1 seconds (0.7 seconds faster than the last auto equipped,

The Little Tujunga asphalt, arid to the sun, provides a good test of ride quality. With adaptive dampers in Comfort mode, the suspension absorbs the sharpest blows despite a 5 percent increase in front spring speed, a 15 percent bump in the rear axle, and our car’s optional 19-inch wheels (the 18s will be standard).

VW homologated six tires for the GTI; it remains to be seen which one will be on the US-spec model, but the Bridgestone Potenza S005s in our test car strikes an excellent balance between ride comfort, steering feel, and easy grip.

The ride cycles through to the Sport and the basic stiffness of the dampers increases, further shaking the occupants. VW is redesigning its adaptive damper for the latest GTI, and new programming makes adjustments up to 200 times per second in response to what you or the roadshows it.

With 15 possible settings, best practice calls for leaving the suspension at Comfort and letting the software tighten things up as needed. The wheel and body control remained tight, and the GTI looked more stable, less nervous, and less affected by the mid-corner impact. That’s the great thing about adaptive dampers – they adapt.

After a few more miles, the road climbs up to embrace the mountainside. The scene changes from a dusty bush to a Bob Ross painting. Around the Dillon Divide, Little Tujunga spins into a series of corners at recommended speeds of 10 to 15 mph.

The fence painted by the talent-exhausted driver looks daunting, but the GTI’s steady handling seems to widen the lane. Time and time again, the little box on the wheels sent everything the driver asked for. The corners fall so easily that it’s possible to flirt with all the available grips. On the skid pedestal, we measured 0.97 g of the giant killer stick.

While the GTI is easy to master, it’s never boring. The variable-ratio rack accelerates the further you turn off the center and go from lock to lock in just 1.9 turns of the steering wheel. The top spokes on those thick-rimmed wheels have capacitive buttons for various controls.

Start rushing the car and you will find your hands sweaty, not because of the job, but because the palms of your hands accidentally turn on the hot steering wheel. Natural turn response and build confidence in the front end grip. To help throw itself into and through turns, the GTI will pull the inner rear brake, but the real joy comes when you roll into the throttle on exiting a corner.

The GTI’s handling and the ability to turn it off are so impressive you’ll be giggling like a fool. Credit the electronically controlled limited-slip differential to pull this front driver out of corners with supernatural fervor. Selecting Sport mode increases enthusiasm by differential locking the clutch package. All you have to do is hit the gas pedal and let the brake-based diff and torque vectors do the rest.

The GTI is soaring out of the corner with tremendous ambition and confidence. The limited-slip differences in front-drive cars can cause unwanted steering wheel pull and noise as the load shifts from side to side, but the GTI allows the car to maintain its course without drama and without compromising precision or steering feel. You are in awe of its magic.

There is no miracle in the practicality of a hot spring door. This is a box. (There’s a reason Amazon doesn’t ship your cargo in a teardrop-shaped package.) The cargo area seems to rival small crossovers, and the rear seats are still family-friendly if you want to use the Little Tujunga and GTI as an emesis remedy.

In front of the steering wheel is a 10.3-inch screen that displays virtual gauges, navigation, or some other information. Like the Apple Watch, the bright, readable screen has a lot to say, but we miss the simple clarity of the old analog meter.

We also really like the volume knob, which the GTI doesn’t have. Adjusting the volume of the audio system is done via the capacitive buttons on the steering wheel or under the center 10.0-inch touchscreen, which controls a number of functions and settings embedded in a dizzying menu structure.

We never found a trip odometer. Fortunately, cars coming to our shore will have Apple and Android phone mirroring capabilities, which will allow owners to largely avoid VW’s blunt infotainment system.

Traditionally, GTI customers have enjoyed interiors from the next class upwards, but the finishes in the latest generation are not good enough for an Audi. While the dashboard is more modern than older car designs like the upright minivan, the material is less rich and disappoints when you touch it. The plaid cloth chair is one of those traditions that have never been forgotten.

They don’t adjust as far down as before, but the car cover appears lower and the outward views are wider. At a steady speed of 70 mph, there are 71 decibels of a four-cylinder hum. Add a little speed and the engine hums resonance disappears to 80; increase to three digits and there is almost no wind pressure. All of this lives up to the GTI’s “faster” mantra.

On the backside of the mountain past the Bear Divide car park, Little Tujunga’s name changed to Sand Gorge and we braked even harder. The GTI shares single-piston rotors and calipers with its predecessor, but VW tuned a new electric-powered brake booster to maintain a solid pedal – something old cars struggled for. Stopping at 70 mph, riding a 151-foot sports-like car, and given the lack of brake fading, we never feared the GTI would lose to a mountain.

The road opens up for the final approach to Santa Clarita and ends, for us, at In-N-Out Burger just before the 14th freeway. We turned around and came back. We are not hungry for Double-Double with raw cheese and onions, but for the happiness that comes from driving a great car and willing to go through tough mountain roads. We can all burst out laughing now.

2022 VW Golf GTI Feature

In terms of profile, the GTI comes as a careful evolution of the current car, with the biggest style difference in the design of the 17 “wheels (18 and 19 wheels will also be available).

The rearview mirror shows a body that tapers inward as it moves from the wheels to the roof, in contrast to its traditional upright shape. The roofline extends to the spoilers at the top of the liftgate.

Below, the rear diffuser is more prominent and has an exhaust outlet at the corner. The front of the new GTI is the most dramatic change. The red bar now extends at the top of the lattice and extends to form the top of the headlamps before wrapping the front edges of the front fenders.

The tape is paired with a thin LED light bar just below. The large low air intake has a honeycomb pattern. Meanwhile, the fog lights come on as five individual honeycombs on each side. All LED exterior lighting.

As in the new generation of 2022 VW Golf GTI, the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster is standard on the new GTI, and a head-up display will also be available.

Infotainment touch screen measuring 10 inches and integrates Amazon Alexa. Internet connectivity is standard.

The touch panel replaces the switch to the left of the instrument group and the others operate the sunroof.

The shifter for automatic transmission a little nub on the center console, which selects backward, neutral, and drive, with a separate park push button.

Keys for ignition and auto-hold function, and pull switch for the parking brake, complete console controls. The odd layout of the shifters is the reason for choosing a manual gearbox, which features a golf ball style shift button.

Red accent features stand out in it. Dash air vents appear as full-width trim panels, multi-color ambient lighting is standard along with two USB-C ports.

Checkered fabric seats – GTI features that come from the originals – are back and combined with microsuedes. Metal-cut pedals including a large die pedal and flat steering wheel complete the traditional look.

On the chassis, the new GTI again features a strut-type front suspension and multi-link rear, with the DCC adaptive VW damper. Drivers can choose Comfort, Eco, or Sport modes.

Standard driver assistance includes forward collision warning with automatic pedestrian detection and emergency braking and lane-keep assistance.

In Europe, Volkswagen also offers Travel Assist, adaptive cruise control with the stop-and-go capability, and active steering assistance. This combination offers a level of independent driving capability that works at speeds of up to 130 mph.

There, GTI will also offer Car2X communications, with the ability to warn other vehicles within half a mile of road hazard.

2022 VW Golf GTI Specs

We already know that Volkswagen introduced the eighth-generation Golf GTI online in March 2020, but there was not much talk about the American specification variant during the launch of the model.

Although regular golf is very likely to die in the United States, the North American market remains very important for the GTI. We absorb about 45% of the total volume, according to Megan Closet, product manager for the Golf family.

The seventh-generation model came out is the most successful GTI in 44 years of nameplate history, so that its successors have plenty to live to date. The competition is tighter than before, too.

Styling cues enthusiasts hope to see the GTI, such as the red emblem and honeycomb-shaped trim pieces, taken into account in the design of the new car. 18-inch alloy wheels will become standard, while 19-inch alloy wheels – the first for a nameplate – will join the lit grille on the list of options.

Technology is also part of the package. Blindspot detection registered at Closet, lane maintenance assistance and autonomous emergency braking due to several electronic propulsion aids for each GTI will be equipped.

Inside, the new look checkered fabric seat will come standard, while heated and ventilated leather seats – another first – will be offered for an additional fee. Drivers who feel very lively will have a 30-color lighting system with GTI mode to play.

Volkswagen chose to send analog gauges using Scirocco. Every GTI regardless of trim level will get a digital instrument cluster that can be configured by a driver connected to an 8.25-inch touch screen that displays the next generation of the company’s MIB infotainment system.

There is a 10-inch screen on the upgrade list along with a head-up display and a Harman Kardon sound system that replaces the current car Fender settings.

2022 VW Golf GTI Exterior

In this section, a sleek exterior design update for the new 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI comes with a 30-horsepower boost, a revised chassis with sharper steering, and sharper handling with minimal understeer, four levels of “driver profile selection”, and the interior more luxurious with more equipment.

The VW Golf R will return to North America when the next GTI prime minister is here, scheduled for the third quarter of 2021.

The US and Canada buy 45 percent of global GTI and Golf R production, and VW of America wants to sell special editions such as the GTI Club, Club Sport, and TSR which were previously only sold in Europe.

But each version with a different power train will require a separate and expensive EPA certification, said Hein Schafer, senior vice president for marketing and product strategy.

The new exterior design of the Mark 8 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI is more evolutionary than revolutionary. Don’t stop pressing; since the first GTI, sheet metal updates to hot hatchbacks are relatively smooth.

The nose of this new car is quite striking for a conservative redesign, featuring a widening lower front fascia with five typical LED foglamps that peek from both angles. The thin grille is covered by a thin LED headlight connected by a body-wide LED light.

This profile is quite familiar but easily recognized by pillar c which is faster and more dynamic. The tornado-red brake calipers remain, and the 19-inch cast-aluminum wheel option, combined with 235/35 summer tires will be optional.

All-season tires on 18-inch wheels will become standard in the US, while VW will offer Canada a choice of 17 and 18 in all seasons besides 19. Dual exhaust pipes will return, on the left and right under the lower fascia.

2022 VW Golf GTI Interior

In the interior of 2022, the Volkswagen Golf GTI maintains standard tartan checkered seats, and they are heated, with a new design pattern. Options leather perforated seats will be heated and ventilated.

The steering wheel cover is perforated again (last seen on the Golf 6 GTI), and the heated wheel will become standard.

The steering wheel is equipped with complementary multi-function touch controls, and the instrument panel has a digital gauge. The MIB infotainment system will come with an 8.25 inch or 10-inch screen.

The interior has a red accent, like the previous model, but for the Golf 8 version, around 30-color lighting systems, including “GTI specific modes,” will be standard.

Gear-by-wire selector and steering wheel paddle shifters are equipped with an optional 7DSG transmission, and a head-up display projecting onto the windshield will also be an option.

VW has discarded additional Fender premium audio systems for the Harmon-Kardon hi-fi unit.

2022 VW Golf GTI Engine

Speaking of the engine, there is no doubt that the 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI car employs a fourth generation of the turbocharged four-cylinder VW EA888 2.0-cylinder, and that will make 242 horsepower and 273-lb-ft of torque, up from 228 and 258, respectively.

Equipped with a standard six-speed fixed gearbox, and another seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox will be optional, both on the GTI and Golf R.

VW of America claims a high take-up rate of around 40 percent for the GTI Golf 7 manual and expects the same level for the new model.

2022 VW Golf GTI Handling and Steering

At this stage the manufacturer’s goal is to improve the performance of the 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI while maintaining comfort, with better cornering grip, greater stability and precision, and more predictability, said Karsten Schebsdat, vehicle dynamics, and chassis control manager.

MacPherson strut front suspension bushings, springs, and hydraulics are redesigned, with new damper hydraulics and software for dynamic control.

A stiffer aluminum front subframe is also around 6.6 pounds lighter. The multilink rear axle has configured wishbone bushings, helper springs and springs, new wheel mounts, and new damping pads and hydraulics.

The engineers reinforced the 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI front spring rates by 5 percent, and the rear springs were stiffer 15 percent.

Electronically controlled limited front-shaft slip differentials are standard, and progressive-ratio steering is 14: 1 in the center, with 2.1 fast lock-to-lock turns.

The choice of driver profile is oddly named: “under comfort,” for the smallest possible ride, and to “comfort,” “sport,” and “above sport,” heading to 11. There are three settings for electronic stability control, including all -get rid of. VW says that in top mode, the car can drift a little.

VW promised that the driver’s assistance would be the most up-to-date, which seems at least somewhat opposed to this car, including lane-keep assist and park assist. Rakes are reworked for better taste and dynamic response.

VW said they cut the 3.9 second time on the Ehra trial track of 2.05 miles, comparing the Golf 8 GTI with the Golf 7 GTI, both with new, more powerful car engines.

2022 VW Golf GTI Security

In this safety section, the GTI 2022 will include several advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) as standard equipment. Front Assist is an advanced impact warning system with automatic pedestrian detection and emergency braking. Lane Assist is a warning of lane departure and lane maintenance assistance systems.

2022 VW Golf GTI, volkswagen gti price, 2020 volkswagen golf gti configurations, 2020 volkswagen golf gti autobahn, 2020 volkswagen golf gti se, 2021 vw gti,

Park Assist equips GTI with front and rear parking sensors and a semi-autonomous parking assistance system that helps steer the car into an empty parking lot. Additional ADAS for the new GTI include blind-spot warning and rear traffic warning.

Travel Assistance is a new option. It pairs adaptive cruise control with the help of lane centering and works at speeds of up to 130 mph.

The purpose of this technology is to reduce fatigue during long-distance driving, but the driver must remain attentive and keep using the steering wheel.

Expect connected services currently offered for GTI to continue, such as automatic collision notifications and emergency assistance.

2022 VW Golf GTI Price

For the price issue, although the decision to drop all Golf models other than GTI and Golf R effectively repositioned the offer in the brand, Closet said the company tried to hold prices up to less than 10 percent when the Volkswagen Golf GTI 2022 reached our coast. We look forward to it, and then some.

2022 VW Golf GTI, volkswagen gti price, 2020 volkswagen golf gti configurations, 2020 volkswagen golf gti autobahn, 2020 volkswagen golf gti se, 2021 vw gti,

VW won’t announce the price for the GTI for some time. GTI prices currently range from $ 28,595 to $ 36,495. The new Volkswagen GTI goes on sale in Europe later this year. The US version is likely to follow the European version for about a year, placing it in a showroom around the end of 2021 as a 2022 model.

Thus the information we can give you, hopefully, can add to your knowledge reference about the presence of the 2022 VW GTI. We will continue to update other interesting information on this website. Good luck to all of us. Cheers!
