Tiguan today has a more stylish design than in previous years. For 2022, Volkswagen added a new front bumper, a larger grille, updated LED headlights, and a new wheel design. With soft curves and rounded design elements, today’s Tiguan looks like a premium product.
The way the daytime running lights point directly to the horizontal bars on the grille, the body lines that connect to the taillights, and the creases in the wheel holes give the Tiguan a cohesive look that no other car in this segment has.
The upcoming 2023 Tiguan should have the same exterior design as the current SUV.
As a carryover model, the Volkswagen Tiguan 2023 is expected to have the same interior design as the current SUVs.
With angular lines, a tiered center console that separates the infotainment controls from the air conditioning system, and multiple buttons, the Tiguan has a more sophisticated appeal than its competitors.
For 2022, Volkswagen is switching to using some capacitive touch buttons that look modern but are difficult to use.
Volkswagen offers the Tiguan with a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, six audio speakers, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi hot spots, two USB ports, an eight-inch digital instrument cluster, and the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit system.
Available features include an eight-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, Fender audio system with nine audio speakers, wireless charging pad, navigation, satellite radio, and HD radio. These features will not change for the 2023 model year.
The current Tiguan comes with a standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This motor has 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque.
An eight-speed automatic transmission is the only offering available. The Tiguan comes with front-wheel drive as standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option. We hope this powertrain will continue to be available for the 2023 Tiguan.
Standard safety features on the Tiguan today include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, rear traffic warning, and blind-spot monitoring.
Available safety features include lane departure warning, lane guard assistance, surround-view parking camera, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, automatic reverse emergency braking, automatic high beam assist, and driver sleep monitoring.
The Tiguan 2023 is expected to be available with the same safety features as the current SUVs on sale.
2023 VW Tiguan Review
The updated design and additional features help give the Volkswagen Tiguan 2023 extra luxury while competing in the highly competitive compact SUV/crossover segment.
When you’re up against the likes of the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Ford Escape (to name just a few), you can’t let things go stale with your SUV offering. This is why VW recently updated the Tiguan both inside and out and increased the number of standard features across the lineup.
Every year 2023 the Tiguan now comes with an 8-inch digital gauge cluster, heated front seats, and a more robust range of active safety features including automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear traffic warning.
Visually, the Tiguan 2023 has standard LED headlights and taillights, a wider front grille, new badging at the rear, and a choice of wheels ranging in diameter from 17 to 20 inches.
This same careful evolution extends to the cabin, where the aforementioned 6.5-inch infotainment touchscreen and digital gauge cluster give the driver a clear and modern-looking place to operate. Both a larger 8-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital gauge display are also optional.
The Tiguan 2023 remains one of the few compact SUVs to have third-row seats available. They are best left for small children, although the flexibility of the extra seating can prove a major plus for many car buyers.
Just note, this 3-row seating arrangement is standard on Tiguans in FWD format, but is not offered in combination with any of the AWD models.
One thing that hasn’t changed is what’s under the hood of the Tiguan 2023. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque.
Coupled with the 8-speed automatic steering and smooth direct steering, the Tiguan isn’t the sportiest little SUV out there, although it’s fun to drive and delivers a reasonable performance punch when needed.
Although the Tiguan is sold in the global market, US dealers are only peddling the long-wheelbase model, meaning an optional third row of seats is available for those who need it.
That kind of cabin flexibility is something that major competitors like the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, and Toyota RAV4 don’t offer.
The second-generation Volkswagen Tiguan is now halfway through its life cycle, and it’s believed the next iteration will launch sometime in 2023.
According to a new report from Auto Express UK, the German brand has some pretty big changes to its top-selling nameplate – Volkswagen reportedly sold more than 850,000 units globally in 2018 alone.
With the company’s all-electric ID. Family on the horizon, it says the combustion-powered Tiguan 2023 Model will get a radical stylistic overhaul to make it more ’emotional’, getting a sloping roofline and a fastback-styled rear more than the current box model aesthetic.
Think of something that goes along with the 2015 CrossBlue Coupe concept (below).
Auto Express claims a sportier styling shouldn’t affect the practicality of the current car, keeping the luggage capacity around 470L, while a longer version of the ‘Allspace’ should be offered which will extend the length by about 250mm.
2023 VW Tiguan Redesign
The current Volkswagen Tiguan 2023 has only been on sale since 2016. But despite its popularity, VW is already planning a next-generation version of its best-selling model – and it will look completely different.
Earlier this month, VW confirmed AutoExpress plans to turn the next-generation 2023 Tiguan into a stylish crossover coupe. This will be a significant change from the somewhat conservative design of the current model.
But what will it look like? We haven’t seen any new 2023 Tiguan spy photos yet, but this hasn’t stopped Kolesa from designing renders that show what the next-generation 2023 Tiguan will look like.
Minimal changes have been made to the front, as the next-generation Tiguan has been created with a very familiar look with the larger grille.
The crossover height has also remained the same, but the sloping roofline provides extra style and the rear overhang has also been enlarged.
At the rear, the taillights have also been redesigned to a full-length design similar to that of other recent VW models such as the T-Cross.
The new Volkswagen 2023 Tiguan will use an updated version of VW’s MQB platform, which means it will likely share engine options with the next generation Golf so we get to see a plug-in hybrid version and perhaps a hardcore R variant.
To give you an idea of the Tiguan R’s potential performance, the new Golf R is expected to pack a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine that produces 320 horsepower.
The good news is that the coupe-style body won’t sacrifice the Tiguan’s practicality, as reports claim the trunk space on the new model will hardly change.
A larger Allspace model is also expected to be offered once again. It’s not only the exterior that has undergone a refurbishment because the interior is expected to be inspired by the European Passat.
Unfortunately, we won’t know how accurate Kolsea’s rendering will be for a long time because the next-generation Tiguan 2023 Model won’t arrive in Europe until 2023, so US customers will likely have to wait until 2023.

If we were in VW’s market position, we would also take a safe and reliable route. Even for an established name, Volkswagen still has a solid foundation in every segment it occupies. At least on the hypercompetitive compact crossover front, it’s all good.
As it happens, the Tiguan is the best-selling nameplate, both on a domestic and global scale, a shift of 300,000 units since 2018 when VW pushed a handful of Vehicular Growth hormones down the neck of fueling the Tiguan and bumped it segment in size to its second generation. Tiguan’s accelerated growth from its first-generation Euro-sized subcompact crossover to its second-generation “LWB” is currently paying immediate dividends; sales increased from 46,983 in 2017 to 103,022 winners in 2018 with the new generation, a sales pace that continues even in 2021.
Volkswagen’s Tiguan is a classic European American style – SUV. It offers more athletic handling than most of its rivals, and the cabin has a suppressed vibe with lots of trendy tech features. While the Tiguan hasn’t proven particularly fast on our test line, the turbocharged four-cylinder engine performed well, sounded expensive, and would be acceptable to most buyers.
2023 VW Tiguan: What’s New for 2023?
New VW Tiguan 2023 has given its compact SUV a handsome stylish refresher for 2023 to help it look right at home along with the new Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport mid-range SUVs.
New LED headlights, revised grille and bumper, and new wheel designs give the Tiguan 2023 a more modern look. The cabin of the Tiguan also received an update, in the form of a new steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls.
The heated seat and digital meter display are now standard across the range. All models except the base S also receive a new touch-sensitive climate control panel, adaptive cruise control, lane guard assistance, and a semi-autonomous driving mode called VW Travel Assist.
The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan third-row seats will remain an optional feature. Expect the New Tiguan 2023 to appear in VW showrooms in Fall, 2022.
2023 VW Tiguan: Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Under the hood of every 2023 Tiguan is a turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 184 horsepower; a Front-wheel drive is standard, but Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is optional.
This is a 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV that is sporty and fun to drive with a smooth and ready engine and a well-coordinated automatic transmission.
Like most of its competitors, this car is far from being fast, but it does replace it with a fast ride, athletic handling, and responsive steering reminiscent of VW’s much-respected GTI hot hatchback.
The Tiguan’s brake pedal action is soft and doesn’t quite match the sturdy, progressive pedals we enjoy in other VW family trees.
Beyond the new high-tech powertrains that must be certified for the upcoming Euro 7 emission standard, the British publication claims the third-generation Tiguan will also offer Level 4 autonomous capability – enabling hands-free driving in certain situations.
Volkswagen is reportedly testing a Golf-based prototype with this technology in Hamburg using the downtown route.
Keep in mind that Auto Express doesn’t cite any official sources to back up its claim, although this isn’t the first time British publications have made money long before.
Real-World Fuel Economy and MPG
The EPA has yet to release fuel economy figures for the Tiguan 2023, nor do we have the opportunity to test it on a 200-mile highway fuel economy route. Safety Features and Driver Assistance
A front collision warning with automatic braking and a blind-spot warning system is standard.

2023 VW Tiguan Design
Volkswagen introduced the second-generation Tiguan in 2017, and the 2022 VW Tiguan quickly became the best-selling VW model in the United States.
The crossover competition has gotten tougher since then, so VW gave the model a mid-cycle makeover for the 2022 model year.
This includes updating its exterior styling while revising the interior features and amenities of the model in a segment where technology is a big differentiator.
In the 2022 facelift model, the VW Tiguan received a revised front-end design. Including a new front bumper which is under the new grille. Incorporates a line of lights flanking the VW badge.
More subtle changes are on the back. The crossover now has the word Tiguan located on the rear door, below the VW logo.
The top two trims of the 2022 VW Tiguan receive R-Line design elements that include unique side sills and side bumpers.
LED headlights and daytime running lights are standard equipment. Each trim receives a new wheel option, which ranges in size from 17 to 20 inches.
Customers will have eight exterior color options including Oryx White and Kings Red Metallic. Both are only circulating for 2022.
You’ll be hard-pressed to spot any changes in it, even if VW is re-adjusting its tech offerings.
VW’s 8.0-inch (20 cm) digital instrument cluster is now standard, with the 10-inch (25.4 cm) Digital Cockpit Pro offered as an available option.
Another standard is VW’s MIB3 infotainment software on every trim, except for the entry-level ones.
That includes wireless charging and wireless App-Connect for compatible devices.
Also standard are heated front seats. Upgrade options include heated steering and ventilated front seats and we are looking forward to the latest changes in 2023.
2023 VW Tiguan Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Volkswagen’s classic Tiguan interior, which means it’s simple and functional but not overly stylish.
Others offer more legroom in the second row, but the New Tiguan 2023 is the only vehicle in the class that can be had with seating for seven people.
The Tiguan comes standard with fabric seating and partial power adjustments for the front seats.
Opting for a more expensive version can provide full power adjustment for the driver, faux leather seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
With only 12 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, the Tiguan cannot be a transport vehicle when the third row is in use.
With the third row folded, the New Tiguan 2023 cargo size places it in the middle of this class for raw space. With all the seats folded, we fit our 19 totes on the Tiguan,
The interior, meanwhile, is said to be inspired by the facelift Passat, with a bigger screen and fewer buttons, although not much else is known at this stage.
Under the skin, the Tiguan will continue to drive newer versions of the current model’s MQB architecture, likely to be dubbed the ‘MQB Evo’ – the new Golf and Audi A3 will likely debut this updated platform later this year.
With that in mind, the new SUV should offer a range of environmentally friendly 48V light hybrid powertrains, with two plug-in hybrid variants also up for debate.
On the other hand, it’s believed the hot ‘R’ version will be at the top of the range, with 350hp (261W) of the turbo four-cylinder petrol engine.
Volkswagen is reportedly planning to introduce the Tiguan R based on the current generation SUV sometime in September.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Volkswagen’s sleek infotainment system and features a touch button integrated into the large glass screen.
This system comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so drivers who prefer their familiar smartphone interface to the Volkswagen system are in luck; Wi-Fi hotspot is standard.
A nine-speaker 480-watt Fender audio system is available for audiophiles, but only on the top trim.
All models are equipped with an 8.0 or 10.3-inch digital measuring screen that can be reconfigured to display a variety of information.
Warranty and Maintenance Protection
What was previously the industry’s best bumper-to-bumper warranty at six years and 72,000 miles of coverage has been shortened to four years or 50,000 miles.
To help reduce coverage a bit easier to handle, all-new New Tiguan 2023 offers two years of regularly scheduled maintenance including at no charge.

- Powertrain warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
- Free maintenance covered for 2 years or 20,000 miles
2023 VW Tiguan Pricing
We expect the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan to have a base price of around $26,000 for the entry-level model in FWD format.
There are five trim options in total: S, SE, SE R-Line Black, SEL, and SEL Premium R-Line. Only the high-end R-Line Premium SEL comes as standard with AWD. Adding AWD to lower trim costs around $1,500 on average.
At its peak, the top-of-the-line Tiguan had an asking price of around $37,000. While it’s not cheap, it’s comparable to VW’s direct rivals.
Volkswagen hasn’t released pricing for the 2023 Tiguan yet, but our forecast here should be close.

Tiguan 2023 Release Date
Based on when Volkswagen released the 2022 Tiguan, we expect the 2023 Tiguan to be out in the fall of 2022.
As a carryover model with no changes expected, the Volkswagen Tiguan 2023 should carry the same price range as the 2022 model. Prices for the current Tiguan start at $27,190 and go up to $37,790 (including destination).
Tiguan 2023 Stepping up to the mid-range SE trim adds 18-inch wheels, a power-operated rear liftgate, lane guard assistance, and a new semi-autonomous driving mode.
The panoramic sunroof will be an option in SE, but we don’t have any other optional features yet.
For a sportier look, consider the SE R-Line Black model, which swaps the 18s for 19-inch wheels and adds black exterior trim and a sport steering wheel.
We think that while these trims provide second-row passengers with access to a set of USB-C ports for device maintenance and dining,
The poor souls crammed into the optional third row won’t have time to appreciate the small cupholders provided; they will focus too much on their cramping muscles due to the contortions that an average size person needs to fit.
The modern Volkswagen has never occupied the bottom of the price bracket, but the updated Tiguan seems well-equipped for the price.
We split our time between the $29,495 front-wheel-drive SE and the $30.995 all-wheel-drive SE, and we feel there’s no real need for buyers to jump into the SEL apart from the lack of navigation on the front-wheel-drive models.
New face, new price. Gliding to the very bottom of the Tiguan S will cut an extra $750 off your piggy bank from before, with prices starting at a still reasonable $27,190. Want more? Pay more—$30,690 for the SE, $37,790 for the big, bad-ass R-Line SEL.
For trims where AWD isn’t standard, you’ll have to shell out an extra $1,500 for the privilege. All prices we’ve listed are speculation and will likely see significant gains.
