2024 VW Atlas The Volkswagen Atlas 2024 is a 3-row midsize crossover SUV, the largest SUV in the Volkswagen lineup and one of the most family-friendly options in its segment.
It has one of the most spacious third row rows in its class, as well as ample cargo space. Another addition to its familiar nature is the list of standard safety features and impressive crash test results.
If you don’t need third-row seats and like the idea of a sleek and sporty SUV, consider the 2-row Atlas Cross Sport. The Cross Sport model has a sloping rear roofline and is more affordable than the 3 .-row Atlas.
Given that the Atlas just received a mid-cycle update for the model year, we expect the 2024 model to remain largely unchanged.
We expect the same two engine options and the same two body styles without many major changes.
Spacious interior offers ample passenger space in all three rows
A great compromise between proper handling and everyday comfort
Simple and easy-to-use cabin design
Wireless smartphone integration is now standard on SE models and above
SEL models and above now come with advanced adaptive cruise control

We still expect the Volkswagen Atlas 2024 to be a big three-row SUV. Since its 2018 debut, the Atlas has become Volkswagen’s biggest SUV, ahead of the smaller Tiguan and the new Volkswagen Taos SUV.
While we liked the Atlas when it first launched, there have been a few updates to the 2021 model that have made it a lot more competitive over time.
The updated exterior styling and upgraded interior keep it fresh. Since the Atlas was updated last year, we didn’t expect any significant changes for 2022.
The Atlas competes with other midsize three-row SUVs – the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade remain our favourites, but it’s also worth looking at rivals like the Honda Pilot, Mazda CX9, and the recently redesigned Toyota Highlander.
If you like the Atlas but don’t need the three rows of seats, the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport combines most of the power of the regular Atlas into a slightly slimmer package.
The Atlas is the largest Volkswagen ever built and was designed specifically to meet the needs and wants of buyers in the United States.
The Atlas entered the market in 2017 as a 2018 model year vehicle and has just received a refresh for the 2021 model year, which hits the front and rear bumpers and adds new technology. Then, VW updated the Atlas again with the designation 2021.5. Volkswagen offers the Atlas with seating for up to seven.

2024 Volkswagen Atlas
Volkswagen designed the Atlas with interior space as the main focus. It offers plenty of room for cargo and passengers, and the third row can easily fit an average-sized adult.
Drivers will benefit from the now standard 8.0-inch digital gauge cluster. The central infotainment screen is also easy to use.
The driving dynamics of the Atlas fell to the side of the road. It drops on power compared to its competitors, and its transmission tuning leaves a lot to be desired.
The Atlas, although upgraded for 2022, is still not one of our favorites in the three-row SUV segment.
2024 Volkswagen Atlas Performance and Fuel Economy
Volkswagen basically offers two engine options for the Atlas model: the first is a standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 235 hp and 258 Nm of torque.
The second option is a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 276 horsepower and 266 Nm of torque. The eight-speed automatic transmission combines the two engines. The V6 offers decent acceleration, coming in at 60 mph. 7, 3 seconds.
But the Atlas suffers from low fuel consumption. The four-cylinder model gets 21/25 mpg city/highway with front-wheel drive and drops to 20/24 mpg with AWD.
Choosing the V-6 incurs a fuel-saving penalty in exchange for additional power. The EPA rates the Atlas V-6 at 18/24 mpg with FWD and 17/23 mpg with AWD.

2024 VW Atlas Interior
In the interior space is the best done by Atlas. There’s a decent 20.6 cubic feet behind the third row. With the rear seats upside down, that space grows to 55.5 cubic feet.
If Atlas needs to be pressed into service for a day move or furniture store pickup, lowering the second and third rows opens up an incredible 96.8 cubic feet of space. It’s better than its rival, the Subaru Ascent.
Cargo space (behind the first/second/third row):
VW Atlas: 96.8/55.5/20.6 cubic feet
2022 ascent: 86.5/47.5/17.8 cubic feet
Legroom (first/second/third row):
VW Atlas: 41.7/37.6/33.7 inches
2022 ascent: 42.2/38.6/31.7 inches
The base model Volkswagen Atlas receives a 6.5-inch touchscreen and an 8.0-inch digital gauge cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
The Tech Package available for the entry-level SE trim adds a USB-C port to the rear row, which will come in handy for those hoping to carry passengers on a full load. Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive driver-assist collection comes standard across the Atlas range, adding several comfort technologies to the three-line repertoire.
The Volkswagen Atlas has arrived in 2018, giving the German brand a more rugged-looking crossover to complement its existing lineup. As we enter the 2022 model year, the Atlas will be mostly a carryover model, except for a few trim level and equipment changes and will continue to undergo changes for 2024.
On the outside, the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas will likely continue with the same upright look since its launch in 2018. This look is a stark contrast to the more cheerful Tiguan and Taos brand models, giving buyers a traditional SUV design. The only changes to the Atlas exterior are new 20-inch alloy wheels on the SEL trim, and black 20-inch alloy wheels and black R-Line elements on the SEL R-Line Black trim.
Inside, the Atlas is everything Volkswagen is known for: simple, functional and clean. The dashboard is relatively plain but has enough style to avoid being bland, while the flat-bottomed steering wheel adds spice to the upright style.
We expect this style to continue in the Atlas 2024. That said, there will be several feature updates, including a standard 8-inch digital gauge cluster on the SE liner and a USBC port. The third row on the SE liner with technology. .
2024 VW Atlas Engine
We are pleased with the significant changes to the Atlas 2024 by continuing to update the same two engine options, starting with the standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 235 horsepower, as an option buyers will be able to get the 3.6-liter. V6 with 276 hp.
Both engines are currently paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive or front, hopefully this will stay the same for the 2022 Atlas.
In IIHS testing, the current Atlas only failed to become a Top Safety Pick due to the standard “Marginal” headlights, but received a “Good” rating in all crash tests.
Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking and a blind-spot monitor, but buyers can add adaptive cruise control, active lane control and a surround-view camera system. We expect the ratings and safety features to remain the same in Atlas 2024.
2024 VW Atlas Release Date
There’s no official sale date for the Atlas 2024 yet, but it’s likely to arrive in late 2023.
The Atlas 2024 is expected to come in six trims: SE, SE w/ Technology, SEL, SEL R-Line, SEL R-Line Black, and SEL Premium R-Line.
2024 VW Atlas Price
Full Volkswagen Atlas 2024 pricing details are not yet available, but the lineup will start at $35,670(est) excluding destination fees. If you want a V6 engine, that lineup will start at $41,590 (est).
We expect the price for the Volkswagen Atlas 2024 to start slightly above $31,199 and go up to around $51,999. With a wide price range and several trim and package options available.
You can choose which Atlas is right for you based on your budget. Some of the options that will cost you extra include all-wheel drive, a V6 engine, a second-row captain’s seat, and more driver-assist technology.
