2024 VW Tiguan: The current Volkswagen Tiguan is not a new model as it was released in 2016, and the company is preparing to launch a new version. A recently released video shows the upcoming SUV undergoing winter testing while disguised with stickers to conceal its updated appearance. Upon closer inspection, the stickers distort the design of the front grille, headlights, bumper intakes, rear taillights, exhaust outlets, and diffuser.
Although the video doesn’t provide a view of the interior, previous spy shots have revealed that Volkswagen will make significant changes to the layout, including removing the center touchscreen from the dashboard. However, the company has covered most of the dashboard with camouflage.
It is uncertain if Volkswagen intends to make any significant changes to the Tiguan’s powertrain lineup for the upcoming model, but if it does, it is unlikely to be major. This is because the company already has the all-electric ID.4 and ID.5 models available, and the current range of engines may carry over with some modifications. However, there are rumors that a more powerful variant of the Tiguan will be introduced to the US market, but it won’t be a full-fledged R model.
Previously, there were doubts about whether Volkswagen would offer an all-electric Tiguan, but a recent report indicated that the company plans to release an electric version of the crossover under the name ID. Tiguan. However, the two models will only share the name, as the EV will be built on a separate platform called MQB. For the 2022 model year, Volkswagen updated its highly popular Tiguan with a facelift. However, for 2024, the compact SUV is due for a more significant overhaul. Volkswagen is set to reveal the all-new, third-generation iteration of the Tiguan, which has been the brand’s most successful vehicle since it debuted in 2007.
From the pictures that have been released, it appears that the Tiguan III will depart from the current model’s angular bodywork and prominent horizontal lines, instead opting for a curvier and softer look. The SUV will have flared front and rear fenders, which will give it a more luxurious and bigger appearance, not dissimilar to its bigger sibling, the Touareg. It is highly likely that measurements will show that the Tiguan III is indeed larger than its predecessor and that the impression of increased size is not just an optical illusion.
The upcoming standard five-seat Tiguan is expected to have a slightly longer wheelbase than the current model, which measures 105.6 inches (2,681 mm), allowing for a small increase in interior space. However, this may not be sufficient to satisfy American buyers who prioritize ample space.
Currently, the base Tiguan in the U.S. market is the Tiguan Allspace sold in other regions, which has a longer wheelbase of 109.9 inches (2,791 mm) and can accommodate a third row of seats. Unless Volkswagen can find a way to optimize the vehicle’s design or significantly increase its size, it seems likely that it will offer a two-tier lineup to cater to these differing preferences.
We can confirm that the Tiguan III’s actual front grille and rear bumper will not resemble the ones shown in these pictures. Although the prototype in these images has clever tape disguising that mimics the current Tiguan’s grille and bumper design, we know for certain that the real grille will be narrower, giving it a similar appearance to the Golf Mk8. The lower bumper will have more painted surfaces as well.
The interior will finally catch up with other VW cars and include a tablet touchscreen and separate digital instrument cluster. However, the freestanding tablet will be larger and more square than the one currently found in ID.4 and ID. Buzz. Nonetheless, if you want an electric powertrain, you’ll still need to opt for an ID model. 2024 VW Tiguan Spied
The latest batch of spy photos shows the upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan being tested in the United States, with the automaker’s engineers using a more extensive camouflage to conceal the exterior design of the crossover. According to reports, the new Volkswagen Tiguan will use an updated version of its existing platform, as the company is investing heavily in electric vehicles and traditional combustion engines have limited prospects.
