2022 Volkswagen Jetta The VW Jetta is one of the more sophisticated compact cars, but it also lacks the intelligence found in some of its competitors. His hatchback partner – VW Golf – is a perfect example of this.
However, the company’s smallest sedan is very fuel-efficient and adept at transporting cargo.
Likewise, Jetta provides spacious interiors and luxury class options. Unfortunately, the cabin design is not at all striking, and the best features are provided for the most expensive models.
With a neat infotainment system and no shortage of driver assistance technology, the 2022 Jetta will satisfy everyone except those who care about driver involvement.
By 2022, Volkswagen enhances the 2022 VW Jetta lineup in several small ways. Each version has the latest Car-Net infotainment system, which includes subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspots.
SE and R-Line models now offer Cold Weather packages that add heating elements to the steering wheel, rear seats, washing machine nozzles, windshield wipers, and include remote start.
High-end SEL and SEL Premium have everything out of the box and standard new 17-inch wheels and wireless smartphone charging.
2022 Volkswagen Jetta Review
Volkswagen of America (VoA) said goodbye to the Passat by launching the Limited Edition, after sales continued to decline.
However, the smaller 2022 Jetta GLI model was retained as the compact sedan’s popularity increased.
Year-to-date sales of the Jetta are up five percent, making it the third best-selling model in the company’s portfolio in the United States.
The model also ranks first in terms of “name awareness”, and is in second place in terms of brand loyalty.
Now, for the 2022 Jetta GLI model year, VoA gives the Jetta a variety of new touches.
The front and rear bumpers were redesigned to bring a fresh look to the Honda Civic competitor.
Her makeup was even more beautiful with new metallic colors, such as Rising Blue, Oryx White, and Kings Red. The grille has also been redesigned for the standard and GLI versions.
VW did not forget to install new alloy wheels, with sizes varying from 16 to 18 inches, and available in two black color options.
In the family cabin, the regular Jetta gets a standard 8-inch digital instrument cluster, while the GLI is increased by 10 inches. Trim
the entry-level comes with diamond pattern fabric upholstery, while the higher-end sedans have synthetic or genuine leather upholstery.
The new material for 2022 is Volcano Brown leather combined with two-tone black.
Upgrading to GLI trim will give you perforated leather seats and lots of red accents throughout the cabin.
A more significant change came under the hood, where the stock Jetta eventually dethroned the 1.4-liter engine in favor of a slightly larger 1.5-liter unit (shared with the VW Taos).
Available with either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic, the four-pot turbocharged engine runs on the Miller cycle and has been available in Europe since 2018.
In the case of the Jetta, it brings an 11 hp increase in output to the Taos’ equivalent of 158 hp, while torque stays at 184 pound-feet (250 Newton-meters).
The more powerful GLI retains the larger 2.0-liter turbo engine, producing the same 228 hp and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque.
We’re quite pleased to report that stick shift is still available, in addition to the seven-speed DSG transmission at an additional cost.
You still get seventh-generation Golf R brakes as well as a multi-link rear suspension, Replacing the rear torsion beam from the regular Jetta.
If you want a sporty VW Jetta but can’t afford the GLI upgrade, the 2022 model has a sporty trim that replaces the RLine.
This version features 17-inch alloy wheels and electronic differential locks, as well as a stiffer suspension, black design details and black front end.
This newcomer sits between the entry-level S models and the more expensive SE, SEL, and GLI flagships.
The final trim is offered in full specs to better reflect its position in the Jetta lineup.
The 2022 Jetta GLI and its hot sibling 2022 GLI will go on sale at US dealers in the last quarter of this year.
This speedy sedan will have to face stiff competition, not only from the recently revealed (and much more powerful) Hyundai Elantra N, but also the upcoming Honda Civic Si.
2022 Jetta GLI
By 2022, Volkswagen has made several changes to the Jetta GLI. Each model gets the latest Car-Net infotainment software along with subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspots.
The 35th Anniversary Edition was lost last year, but VW now offers an adaptive standard Autobahn rate and wireless charging.
The autobahn can also be fitted with a new Black package, which adds a hue to the 18-inch wheelset, side mirror cover, roof, and spoiler.
Although the price is a little more expensive, the Autobahn model is the best representation of the 2022 Jetta GLI.
In addition to exclusive features such as adaptive dampers and wireless charging, each Autobahn has an enhanced audio system, a fully digital measuring cluster, a larger touch screen, leather upholstery, panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats.
All the equipment enhances the sedan’s appeal, and none is available on the base model. However, an optional seven-speed automatic transmission is offered at both trim levels for an additional $ 800.
2022 Jetta GLI Redesign
Volkswagen is launching a new generation of Jetta compact sedans for 2019 but the model that we are most interested in seeing has not yet debuted.
However, we will soon see it, because its debut is expected to take place next February at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show.
The model that we are talking about is the 2022 Jetta GLI, a prototype that has been seen. We know this is 2022 Jetta GLI because of the dual-tip exhaust, the lowered suspension, and the GTI Golf wheels, tires, and brakes.
Naturally, the car also benefits from more aggressive visual cues that are applied to the relatively plain appearance of the Jetta.
The front fascia is more threatening, with sporty mesh treatments for the grille and lower air intake.
The smooth front fascia straps add some sporting detail, just like they do with the associated Golf GTI, while at the rear we can see a tasteful diffuser printed onto the rear fascia.
Volkswagen’s Senior Vice President of Product Planning & Strategy Hendrik Muth in 2017 told the Motor Authority that the new 2022 Jetta GLI will arrive no more than a year after the 2022 Jetta standard.
This shows we will see it arrive as a 2022 model.
Muth also hinted that a manual transmission would be offered, an option recently dropped on the outgoing 2022 Jetta GLI. The new Jetta also offers a 6-speed manual.
The new 2022 Jetta GLI must be dynamically superior to its predecessor. The main reason is switching to the Volkswagen Group MQB platform from the old model PQ35 that came out.

This car will also benefit from the latest VW Group 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4, potentially offering higher output than the 210 model out horsepower and 207 pound-foot torque, and drive only to the front wheels.
One additional change is the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission replacing the 6-speed DCT model out.
Of course, we recommend going with the manual because we are not sure how much longer you will be able to buy an affordable sports sedan with a third pedal.
Production for North America will take place at the VW plant in Puebla, Mexico. It’s the same factory that is responsible for most of the Golf sold here and the Tiguan SUV.
Despite the shift to SUVs among new car buyers, the 2022 VW Jetta remains one of the most important VW signage in the United States.
This is the second most popular model in VW behind Tiguan, selling an average of 9,000 units per month in 2018.
2022 Volkswagen Jetta Interior
Because the base model lacks some of the features we wanted in a new car, we would recommend an intermediate R-Line model.
In addition to the enhanced exterior style that makes the Jetta more attractive, it has a blind-spot monitor, passive entry, and two-color faux leather upholstery that breaks down the interior that looks bland.
The Cold Weather Kit is the only choice and one that we recommend for anyone who lives in a cooler area thanks to the heated steering wheel, heated back seat, remote start, and more.
Inside, the Jetta 2022 provides a sophisticated design and spacious passenger space.
Even though the available features are more desirable with each higher trim, each cabin caters to the driver and offers exceptional outside visibility.
We hope the front seats are wider and provide more support. Top content such as adjustable ambient interior lighting, fully digital cluster gauge, and ventilated front seats are provided for the most expensive models.
Surprisingly, Jetta holds more tote bags than Golf hatchbacks. The sedan keeps seven bags in the trunk, compared to five that fit behind the Golf’s rear seat.
Likewise, Jetta holds three extra bags more than Golf (a total of 18) with rear seats folded. The 2022 Jetta GLI interior cubby storage includes a handy door pocket and a deep center console holder.

Interior 2022 GLI While the GLI has the same basic roomy cabin as the standard Jetta, some bits of the trim color is somewhat more colorful.
Even the base S model features adjustable ambient interior lighting, automatic two-zone climate control, heated front seats, and passive entry with a start button.
The cool version of the Autobahn adds a 10.3-inch digital measuring cluster, power-adjustable driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats.
The most sporty Jetta is also wider than its hatchback counterpart, with about two inches of extra legroom in the back seat.
Likewise, the compact sedan has a large trunk that manages to hold more tote bags (a total of seven) out of five that we fit behind the Golf backseat.
Jetta GLI 2022 Tech
Every year 2022 Jetta has a touch screen infotainment system that is responsive to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities.
Along with traditional volume and tuning buttons, the Car-Net unit allows gesture control to swipe and pinch-to-zoom.
Likewise, every Jetta has a cellular hotspot as long as people are willing to pay for subscription-based data plans. Wireless charging is standard at the top two trim levels.
2022 GLI tech is also equipped with a 6.5 or 8.0-inch touch screen, every year 2022 Jetta GLI has a user-friendly infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Wi-Fi hotspot, and two USB ports.
The Autobahn model gets a larger screen along with a 400-watt, eight-speaker BeatsAudio sound system, and wireless charging.
2022 Volkswagen Jetta Engine
Every 2022 the Jetta powers the front wheels with four turbocharged cylinders that produce 147 horsepower.
The base model has a standard six-speed manual transmission, but an eight-speed automatic is optional and standard on every other model.
We tested Jettas with each transmission and saw almost the same acceleration time. However, both are only on average compared to faster competitors.
Jetta felt responsive pulling out of the traffic lights, but that would benefit from more blows due to crossing the highway.
This sedan is less attractive to drive than a VW Golf hatchback, which has the same platform and powertrains as the Jetta.
While the sedan has a comfortable and quiet ride, its lightweight steering is easy but lacks a feeling of precision.
Compared to rivals such as Mazda 3 and Honda Civic, Jetta is rarely fun to spin around and lean into sharp angles when moving above the posted speed limits.
However, its calm nature will satisfy those who want complacent transportation.
The GLI engine shares its engine with the Golf GTI: a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.
Six-speed manual transmission is standard, and the automatic seven-speed dual-clutch is optional.

Apart from the transmission, acceleration is significantly increased compared to the standard 147-hp Jetta engine.
In our tests, automatically a little faster from zero to 60 mph. The stick-shift version is easy to paddle; our only complaint automatically is to hesitate to go down when cornering with enthusiasm.
Speaking of angles, specially adjusted GLI 2022 suspensions and sticky summer tires (option at no cost) prove the Jetta is as athletic as its hatchback equivalent.
The sedan outperformed our newest Golf R and Lightning GTILap – thanks in large part to the improved rubber.
Likewise, the Jetta GLI 2022 provides felt steering, strong brakes, and appropriate driving whether it is on standard shocks or adaptive dampers provided for top-level Autobahn models.
2022 VW Jetta GLI MPG
While Jetta is less athletic than its hatchback counterpart, it’s more fuel-efficient.
EPA estimates that the sedan will produce 30 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, while Golf is valued at 29 mpg city and 37 highway.
We tested Jettas with every transmission on the 200-mile highway fuel-efficient route, and both exceeded expectations.
The automatic version produces 43 mpg on the highway, and the Jetta with a manual transmission reaches an astonishing 48 mpg.
In comparison, the last Civic sedan we tested missed the highway rating of 1 mpg, at 41 mpg.
MPG GLI Since 2022 the Jetta GLI shares a turbocharged four-cylinder with two different transmissions, it has a separate fuel-economy EPA rating.
A standard six-speed manual transmission is estimated to produce 25 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
Models equipped with an optional seven-speed automatic can expect to see 25 mpg cities and 32 mpg highways, according to the EPA.
We tested GLI with every gearbox on our 200-mile fuel-saving test route and both achieved an impressive 36 mpg on the highway.
